It’s a long trip from Westport, NY to Atlanta, GA. We left at 8:30 am and got home around 7:00 pm last night. I weighed in this morning and I AM up 5 pounds – the scales were only a pound off. So I’m getting back to normal – making my steel cut oatmeal, drinking my morning glass of water and packing up my vitamins for the week.
Speaking of vitamins – I did pretty well on those while I was gone. Taking the little daily packets and putting them in the middle of the table at the house in Westport helped. And as soon as I took the morning lot, I put them in my pocket for the afternoon ones. STILL haven’t managed to get all my iron tablets. I’m now trying them in the mornings before I have anything else. We’ll see how that goes.
I don’t seem too bent out of shape about the five pounds. I am not sure if that is real progress or insanity. On the one hand, accepting that I can’t be on track and perfect every day is a step forward. But gaining 5 pounds in one week is huge – it takes me 2-4 weeks to lose that much new weight. I suppose it is because I don’t think I have set myself back a month. Those recently gained pounds come back off fairly quickly. And I had a lovely time. The small indulgences make me feel more inclined to get back on track than to keep going towards the dark side.
In the past, I would do the opposite. I ate whatever I wanted when I was home and then I would pretend, to myself and anyone who would listen, while I was on vacation, that I always ate very carefully and healthfully. Then go completely insane when I got home or even at night when no one was around. This way is much healthier. More sane. Sanity is good.
So now I am going to pack up some protein powder to take to work. In fact, I think I will haul my magic bullet to the office and make frozen smoothies all week. Some greek yogurt, some frozen berries, a little water and ice and I will have fabulous taste treats and can sip, sip, sip my way back to 178.
